6 Feet Of June Snow Traps Hikers In German Alps
Over the weekend, a rescue operation was launched to evacuate dozens of
stranded hikers on Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, after an out-of-
season snowstorm blew in.
According to the Bavarian Mountain Rescue Service, 29 hikers were attempting to
scale the 2,962-meter (9,718-foot) peak but at 2,500 meters were unable to
continue due to the accumulated snow, which reached depths of 2 meters (6.6
feet) in some areas.
