How much MORE money do you think would have been spent to have the Department
of Health and NOT locals, the reporting and handling of water quality?
Political bodies RARELY pass a law that doesn't benefit someone or some THING,
in this case more travel for whomever handles the water sampling and more funds
for the DoH to handle something that can and HAS been handled by local
jurisdictions.

The governor said the bill was "ill-advised," but one of the measure's sponsors
argued he's ignoring the state's water quality problems.
The Department of Health "SHOULD NOT BE VESTED WITH THE POWER TO SUPERSEDE
LOCAL JURISDICTIONS REGARDING THE OPERATION OF BEACHES," the governor wrote.
In a social media post Thursday evening, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo
responded to the Tampa Bay Times' story by saying he's "NOT INTERESTED IN DOH
HAVING UNILATERAL POWER TO CLOSE FLORIDA'S BEACHES, AND NEITHER ARE
FLORIDIANS."

The REPUBLICAN CO-SPONSOR OF THE BILL, Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman of Highland
