I've just been reading this article

that describes convergent evolutionary effects on the mammalian inner ear.
I've not really had time to consider it in any great depth except to note
that our ears suffer from this "rapid" convergence in that they are derived
from very different stem cell populations and this is causal to some ear problems
resulting from "auto immune" tissue incompatibilities...
