Where do you live? You don't have to give your street address; just the
jurisdiction.

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand-your-ground_law#United_States>

'Washington, D.C. adopts a "middle ground" approach, under which "The
law does not require a person to retreat," but "in deciding whether
[defendant] reasonably at the time of the incident believed that s/he
was in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm and that deadly
force was necessary to repel that danger, you may consider, along with
any other evidence, whether the [defendant] could have safely retreated
... but did not."'

To where could Byrd and the people he was protecting have "safely
retreated"?

This was beyond just trying to pry open a window, and there were most
definitely threats made.

And the police officer in this case did just that: yell.

"Babbitt had been warned not to proceed through the window: one witness
recalled that "A number of police and Secret Service were saying 'Get
back! Get down! Get out of the way!'"
