my financial advisor said the same thing,? I explained it thusly to her: my
worry  is rooted in the simple fear of "that could be me". The very first
day I met her, when they give you the questionnaire of financial goals so
they can learn about your lifestyle.... Stuff like- do you want to move to
a resort town at retirement? Do you enjoy traveling? Do you want to leave
money to your children? What is your biggest financial worry?..... I
answered every single question the same way... "No. All I care about is
that I could lose my job and be destitute. Please tell me how to prevent
that from happening".  Even today, it took her over an hour to get me to
admit i stash  secret money  under my mattress in case of an emergency.
It's exhausting.

My sister is allegedly deathly afraid of ships.  That’s her biggest worry.

I'm deathly afraid of being impoverished.  It's my biggest fear, has been
so for the past 30 years, ever since I came to the realization that there
will never be a second breadwinner to rely on, so if I don't pay the bills,
nobody will. I would commit suicide if I was homeless.
Maybe when my sister was on the Titanic in her previous life, I was a
homeless panhandler in mine?
