Truth is, they can't "back down" from something they never stepped
up to in the first place.
Sure, Europe has cut back on coal on occasion, but even THAT has
far less to do with Gwobull Warbling than depleted reserves.
Germany was the industrial king of Europe for generations, and has
little or no oil and gas to speak of. Their's was a coal fired
industrialization! An over reliance on a resource means the biggest,
easiest & cheapest to exploit get depleted...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_coal_reserves
Compare Germany to, say, America's third largest coal state by proven
reserves, West Virginia: 1.8 billion short tons.
THAT'S why they've closed coal plants in Europe! It's the only
strategic energy reserve most European countries have and there's
precious little...
China has a lot of coal and STILL imports it when it can! Why? For
the exact same reason: Strategic reserves! It's the only energy
they can count on regardless of world events.
