Subject: Carney says he had "very constructive discussions" with Trump and will meet him again at G7 meeting in June
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that he will meet with US
President Donald Trump in June at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta.
âWe had what I would describe as wide ranging, and as I said a moment
ago, very constructive discussions,â Carney told reporters today at the
Canadian Embassy in Washington. âWe agreed to have further conversations
in the coming weeks, and we are looking forward to meeting in person at
the G7 summit in Canada,â he added.
Trump has not yet confirmed his attendance at the summit. According to
three US officials familiar with the matter, ahead of the Trump-Carney
meeting, Trump and his aides had not made a final decision on attending
the summit.
Carney also reiterated that Canada âis not for saleâ after Trump earlier
said that he still would like the US neighbor to the north to become a
state.
âThe president has made known his wish about that issue for some time,â
Carney said. âIâve been careful always to distinguish between wish and
reality. I was clear there in the Oval Office, as Iâve been clear
throughout on behalf of Canadians, that this is never going to happen.
Canada is not for sale and never will be for sale.â
