Yeah, they chose 'whatever source derived,' as in all sources.

That's not what is meant by 'source.' The source is the income itself.
Illegal or not, they are required by law to declare their income, from
whatever source they derive it. Instead of Juan wiring his under the
table cash back to Consuela in full, he is required to, by law, declare
it as income and pay income taxes on it. In many cases, that isn't
happening.
