Every time I hear/read about China's
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_of_humiliation
and start to think about it I canna' help but return to
the "Self Inflicted Injury" argument.
China has *Ancient* traditions of technology and science unlike
anything seen in the West until the Enlightenment: nitrated
meats are products of Chinese state-sponsored scientific
investigations into Human Mortality. They didn't manage
to keep the Emperor alive, but they did bring home the
bacon for the rest of us.
A century ago the Chinese couldn't get their shit together
to build a decent bicycle, an' now they're exploring the
Dark Side of the Moon. Time to leave off with the blame
game, dudes; it don' look so good on yous.
