There's been no VEI8 super volcanoes in the whole of the Holocene. Which
is good. We're probably okay until there is one, and then the glaciers
are going to start to grow real fast.
Truth is we are inside of an ice age. This ice age is characterized by a
glacial/interglacial cycle. A glacial period is what most people
mistakenly refer to as an "Ice Age."
We are living during the Holocene. The Holocene is an interglacial, a
warm period between two glacial periods. Most interglacials lasted 10k
years, our is popularly dated back about 12k years. Factoring out the
Younger Dryas cooling, it's more like 15k years old.
Yes. We are overdue for the next glacial period, the next so called
"Ice Age."
But we're safe. Until the next super volcano... many of which are
active right now. Like Yellowstone.
