Subject: where do tornadoes come from, mommy?
Date: Sat, 27 Apr 2024 13:34:06 -0000 (UTC)
Organization: BWH Usenet Archive (https://usenet.blueworldhosting.com)

There have been a few big pulses in tornadoes this year across the US
heartland. For some reason storms are 2x as active this year as last.

In the past 24 hrs more than 100 tornado reports have come in. After
the various state emergencies crews will go out and check which ones
have caused visible damage and which ones are distinct from other
reports of the same storm tracking cross country to other areas.

Up to maybe 24 hrs back the counts for this year's reports broken down
by state jurisdiction look like:

Illinois 71
Florida 65
Ohio 63
Iowa 61
Kentucky 52
Nebraska 52
Missouri 45
Kansas 35
Indiana 34
Alabama 30
Louisiana 28
Georgia 22
Texas 22
Oklahoma 21
Mississippi 16
West.Virginia 15
Arkansas 9
North.Carolina 8
South.Carolina 7
Michigan 6
California 5
Wisconsin 5
Tennessee 4
Virginia 3
Colorado 2
Washington 2
Oregon 1
Utah 1
Wyoming 1

So it comes time to ask the AI programs what the heck is going on?

Using the state by state numbers kept on file they estimate the top 10
"causes" of the distribution as seen above is:

The pick tells an interesting story. The top reasons boil down to the
bad-hit states having wide open areas specifically a large% of
them turned over to cropland. On top of that a large output of soot
from coal-burning plants. On top of that warmer than average temps
across the region around this time of year. On top of that
pig-headedness. And lower than avg levels of state support and infrastructure.

So nothing liable to change in the short to medium term, then.
